19세기 오스트리아 작곡가 Richard Heuberger의 오페레타,
Der Opernball (The Opera Ball, 오페라 무도회) 중 가장
잘 알려진 노래이다.
Der Opernball 은 슈트라우스의 Die Fledermaus (박쥐)와
비슷한 스토리 라인으로 가면 무도회를 벌려 남편들의 바람기를
시험하는 귀부인들이 펼치는 희극이다. 마스크로 변장한
두 여인과 그 남편들, 가면 무도회, 그리고 변장한 하녀들이
함께 펼치는 장난.
오페라는 헤피 엔딩이라니 아마 그 남편들, 바람기 테스트를
큰 사고치지 않고 통과했었던 모양이다.

많은 경우 미성년 입장 불가 혹은 성적으로 노골적인
scene이나 표현이 있으니 주의하라는 경고인데 이 노래의
제목 또한 sexually explicit 하다.
외딴 방으로 물러가자는 은근한 유혹.
남편의 바람기 test에 딱 어울리는...
하지만 Bonney에 비해 Sills의 음성은 explicit 하게 들리지
않으니 어찌된 건가...
몇해 전에 타계한 그녀의 기억이 아직 생생하기 때문인가...?
