Ireland 작곡가 Michael W. Balfe의 "The Bohemian Girl".
"I dreamt I dwelt in marble halls"는 이 오페라 중의 아리아로
조수미, Sutherland, Jessye Norman, Enya 등등 여러 singer들이
부른 탓에 우리에게는 비교적 친근하다.
Balfe의 작품 답게 오페라 수록된 다른 아름다운 aria들이 있는데 -
우리에게 잘 알려져 있진 않지만 - 여기 그 중 2곡을 싣는다.
스토리:
오스트리아 백작 Arnheim의 딸 Arline는 어려서 사냥터에 나갔다가
아버지와 헤어진 후, 집시의 손에 자란다. 12년의 세월이 흘러
집시 처녀로 성장한 Arline는 폴란드 병사 Thaddeus를 사랑한다.
집시 여왕의 질투로 음모에 빠지지만 결국은 사랑도 얻고 아버지도
찾는 해피엔딩이다.
