Mühlenrad = mill-wheel 물의 낙차를 이용하던 옛 물래방아의 물레바퀴를 말한다. Reger) 위 음원 전곡 (down and play) 사족: 독일 리트, 특히 Schumann, Mendelssohn, Richard Strauss에서 빼놓을 수 없는 사람이 있다. 낭만파 시인/작가 Joseph von Eichendorff. 그가 1807/1808년 Heidelberg 대학에서 공부하던 때 만난 소녀가 있으니 그 이름 Katharina Förster이다. 그의 일기에 "K" 혹은 "Käthchen"의 애칭으로 불리던 소녀이다. 2013년 Heidelberg의 Alte brücke에 "Heidelberger Liebesstein (Heidelberg love stone)"이라는 기념비를 세웠다는데 (위 사진 참조) 거기에 적은 시, "Der Blick (The glance)"의 대상이 바로 이 처자이다. Käthchen은 Eichendorff가 머물던 Bakery house에서 오빠를 도우며 일하던 소녀이었고 두사람은 풋풋한 사랑에 빠진다. 당시 Eichendorff의 나이 19세. 무슨 연유에서 이었을까? 헤어지게 된 두 사람. 19세 Eichendorff의 마음이 여기 인용한 시, "Das zerbrochene Ringlein 깨어진 작은 반지"에 담아있다. 설마 1809년 Eichendorff가 Berlin으로 떠난 이유가 이것은 아니었겠지. 1814년 Friedrich Glück이 "Untreue 배신"의 제목으로 곡을 썼고 그쪽 문화권에서는 시의 첫 시작, "In einem kühlen Grunde"의 제목으로 널리 알려져 있다. 시의 제목을 쓴 "Das zerbrochene Ringlein", Conradin Kreutzer의 "Das Mühlrad", 그리고 F. Silcher나 M. Reger의 편곡으로 알려진 합창이나 중창 버젼 등등, 흔히 "독일 민요"의 하나로 언급되는 매우 popular한 노래이다. Heidelberg 기록에 의하면 Katharina Förster는 1837년 48세의 나이에 미혼으로 죽었고 지역의 St. Peter cemetery에 묻혔다 한다. 청년 Goethe와 Friederike Broin의 경우 처럼 그녀도 1년 남짓한 첫사랑의 기억으로 일생을 살았던 걸까?
